Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. president-elect Donald Trump both shared thoughts on social media Saturday about their surprise three-hour dinner together in Florida on Friday night.
Trump offered his perspective about how the meeting at his Mar-a-Lago resort went with Trudeau in a post on Truth Social, saying they touched on a number of key issues related to border safety, illegal drug trafficking and, most importantly, trade. The meeting came days after Trump threatened to slap massive 25-per-cent tariffs on Canadian products being imported into the U.S.
“I just had a very productive meeting” with Trudeau, Trump wrote on his social media network. “I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic.”
