epa07756259 Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei speaks to media during a press conference in Tehran, Iran, 04 August 2019. Media reported that Rabiei harshly condemned US sanctions against Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced on 31 July 2019 that the United States imposed sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The move, following sanctions targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in late June 2019, is part of Washington’s campaign to put pressure on Tehran amid heightened tensions since the US unilaterally withdrew from the landmark 2015 nuclear deal last year.
